Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has stated that his administration will continue to promote judicial independence in the state.
According to him, his administration has created an enabling environment for the judicial branch of government to carry out its constitutional responsibilities because it recognizes the importance of the judiciary as a source of hope for the common man.
Makinde made the remarks at a reception hosted by the Oyo State Government in honor of Nigeria’s Chief Justice, Honourable Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
Makinde expressed delight at the fact that the state produced Nigeria’s Number 5 citizen at the event, which was attended by four other state governors, justices of the Supreme Court, Oyo State Judiciary, top lawyers, and other eminent dignitaries.
The governor, who explained that Oyo State was producing the CJN for the first time in Nigerian history, stated that the development has heralded many ground-breaking achievements for the state.
In his remarks, Justice Ariwoola thanked Governor Makinde for honoring him and promised not to let Nigerians down.
Nobody would write about Seyi Makinde as governor of Oyo State and not mention that a CJN came from the state during his tenure as governor, according to the CJN.
Justice Ariwoola also urged politicians to allow the Judiciary to do its job, while cautioning the Judiciary to leave politics to politicians.
Justices of the Supreme Court, the leadership of the Oyo State Judiciary, legal luminaries, top officials of the Oyo State government, traditional rulers, and others attended the event.
