On Friday, September 30, a Federal High Court in Abuja overturned Governor Isiaka Oyetola of Osun’s nomination as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the July 16 governorship election.
In his verdict, Justice Emeka Nwite declared Oyetola and his deputy governorship candidate, Benedict Alabi, ineligible on the grounds that Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, who submitted their names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), violated Section 183 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution and Section 82(3) of the Electoral Act, 2022.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filed the complaint against Governor Buni, Governor Oyetola, and others.
However, Oyetola’s counsel, Kunle Adegoke, SAN, who confirmed the verdict to newsmen, stated that they would appeal the verdict.
