Leaders from the Enugu North Senatorial District, popularly known as Nsukka Zone, have endorsed Governor Peter Mbah for a second term in office, applauding his administration’s sweeping infrastructural and economic transformation in the region.

Gathering under the aegis of the Enugu State Coalition for Progress, Nsukka Zone chapter, the leaders met at Adada House, Nsukka, on Thursday. The coalition included representatives from traditional institutions, academia, business community, labour unions, farmers’ associations, market unions, and political stakeholders from all six local government areas in the zone.

At the end of the session, a communiqué signed by over 700 prominent individuals—including former Deputy Governor Chief Okechukwu Itanyi, Senator Chuka Utazi (APC), Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Ezeani Ezenta, Dr. Dan Shere, Prof. Simon Ortuanya, Gen. Godwin Ugwuoke (rtd), and several others—cited the governor’s massive development strides in the zone as the basis for their endorsement.

The coalition praised Mbah’s administration for prioritizing security and infrastructure, saying the district has benefited the most from the government’s ongoing projects. These include the construction of 102 Smart Green Schools and 102 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres—one in each electoral ward in the district.

One of the most applauded projects is the dualisation of the 43.7 km Enugu-Ugwogo Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road, which the coalition described as the most expensive infrastructure undertaking in the state. Additional projects include the reconstruction of the 44.8 km Ama Ngwo-Eke-Oghe-Iwollo-Umulokpa road and the 40 km Owo-Ama Nkanu-Ubahu-Mbu-Neke dual carriageway—all considered strategic to economic connectivity and development in the zone.

The leaders also commended Mbah for the establishment of the Enugu State Command and Control Center to improve state-wide security, which they said has made Enugu an attractive destination for tourism, business, and investment.

They further highlighted the state’s impressive leap in Internally Generated Revenue, projecting an annual figure of over N600 billion by the end of 2025. Other key achievements mentioned include the development of Enugu Air, new transport terminals including Nsukka Central Terminal and Holy Ghost Terminal, the 300-bed International Hospital, and an upcoming five-star hotel—all aimed at boosting the state’s economic outlook.

Senator Chuka Utazi, an APC member, expressed bipartisan support for the governor, stating: “This is not a PDP gathering. It is a meeting of Nsukka people united in gratitude for the governor’s work. I have seen the progress myself—roads, security infrastructure, and more.”

Chief Itanyi moved a motion for the formal endorsement of Mbah for the 2027 election, which was unanimously supported by all members present through a voice vote.

The group agreed that continuity was essential for the completion and consolidation of the Mbah administration’s legacy projects, asserting that Nsukka stands firmly behind the governor going into the next electoral cycle.
