The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has petitioned the Minister of Health and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), alleging retirement fraud, abuse of office, and financial impropriety by the Head of Nursing Services at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
In a petition signed by Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide on behalf of ENF, the forum claimed it acted in the public interest, citing the Public Service Rules, Federal Civil Service Regulations, and anti-corruption laws.
ENF alleged that the officer, who went on terminal leave in 2025 and reached the mandatory retirement age on January 9, 2026, continues to occupy the office unlawfully while exercising authority without legal basis. The forum further accused her of coercing nurses under her command to contribute funds for a retirement send-forth ceremony, which allegedly never occurred and was purportedly diverted for personal use, including a private birthday celebration.
The petition also raised concerns that the officer failed to meet mandatory conditions for service extension, such as submitting a formal application, providing a medical fitness certificate, and adhering to the required notice period. ENF argued that her continued stay undermines public service rules, staff morale, and employment opportunities for qualified unemployed nurses.
ENF called for the immediate disengagement of the officer, a thorough investigation into the alleged diversion of funds, refund of monies collected from nurses, appropriate disciplinary actions, and the replacement of retired officers with qualified unemployed nurses in line with government employment policies.
The forum stressed that its petition was submitted in good faith to uphold justice, accountability, and the integrity of Nigeria’s public health service.
