Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, has been crowned the 2025 Miss Universe in Thailand, emerging winner after a dramatic buildup marked by disputes, walkouts, and judging controversies.

Bosch won the title on Friday in Nonthaburi, near Bangkok, ahead of finalists from Ivory Coast, the Philippines, Thailand, and Venezuela, selected from more than 120 contestants.

Her victory followed weeks of tension after she walked out of a meeting where Miss Universe Thailand director, Nawat Itsaragrisil, criticised her for allegedly failing to post required promotional content. The incident, captured on livestream, showed Bosch leaving the room alongside Miss Iraq as Nawat called for security. She later accused him of calling her “dumb,” saying contestants deserved respect.

Speaking after her win, Bosch said she hoped to be remembered as “a Miss Universe that wasn’t afraid to be herself” and as someone who challenged traditional expectations of beauty queens. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum had earlier praised her for speaking out, describing her as an example for women confronting aggression.

Nawat later apologised, initially declining to comment but eventually congratulating the new Miss Universe.

The event also witnessed other controversies. Two judges resigned days before the final, including French composer Omar Harfouch, who alleged the pageant was influenced by a “secret, illegitimate vote”  a claim the Miss Universe Organization denied. Former footballer Claude Makelele also stepped down citing personal reasons.

The competition saw on-stage incidents as well. Miss Britain, Danielle Latimer, fell during the costume segment, while Miss Jamaica, Gabrielle Henry, was hospitalised after falling off the stage during an evening gown showcase. She was reported to be recovering and without serious injuries.

In Mexico, thousands gathered in Bosch’s hometown of Villahermosa to watch the event live, erupting in celebration when she was crowned.
