Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, on Monday announced that his administration will deliver 15,000 mass housing units for civil servants and middle-income earners by 2026 as part of efforts to expand access to affordable and dignified accommodation across the state.
Mbah made the pledge while delivering a lecture at the 4th Enugu Diocesan Synod of the Catholic Church held at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Ogui, Enugu.
The governor highlighted the ongoing Enugu Smart City Project, describing it as a comprehensive housing initiative integrating smart technology, fibre optic infrastructure, and green energy solutions to enhance the living standards of residents.
He also revealed that rehabilitation work has begun at the Aluminium Plant in Ohebe-Dim, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, with inauguration scheduled for October 1, 2026. According to him, the upgraded facility will fabricate aluminium and produce aluminium profiles.
“Our administration will deliver 15,000 mass housing units by 2026,” Mbah said. “We have embarked on an affordable housing scheme, including the new Enugu housing estate, which offers dignity and stability to civil servants and middle-income earners.”
Mbah further announced that the Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno, has been upgraded to a University Teaching Hospital.
Speaking on the role of the church in governance, he noted that while the church shapes moral character, government builds systems that enable that character to thrive. He described the synod as a moment of reflection and renewal.
The 4th Enugu Diocesan Synod, declared open on Sunday by the Bishop, Most Rev. Calistus Onaga, is themed “Promoting a Productive Economy in Enugu State.” It is scheduled to run from November 16 to 22, 2025.
