Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed honouring an invitation by the Department of State Services (DSS) in connection with the September 1 attack on his convoy in Kebbi State.
Malami disclosed this in a statement on Monday via his social media handle, noting that the invitation was part of ongoing investigations into the assault. He explained that his petition to the DSS, citing threats to his life, was among those being reviewed.
“I can confirm that I have been invited by the Department of State Services to support investigation over the attack on my person and convoy in Kebbi State,” he said.
The former minister alleged that the incident was politically motivated, pointing fingers at “opposition high-profile political elements” in the state. He, however, commended the DSS for handling the matter with “professionalism and transparency,” adding that he was treated with dignity and respect during the process.
Malami pledged to continue cooperating with the agency to ensure the investigation is concluded successfully.
The development comes amid a political row in Kebbi, where Governor Nasir Idris recently accused Malami of promoting what he called “a terrorism agenda” under the guise of politics. The governor dismissed Malami’s claims that the state government imported mercenaries, describing them as false and capable of threatening peace in the state.
