Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Monday said political stability has returned to the state following months of crisis, adding that he is now working in harmony with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Fubara made the remarks while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The governor, who was reinstated last week after a six-month suspension, said his visit was to thank the President for lifting the emergency rule and to reaffirm his commitment to peace and development in Rivers.

“As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together,” he told reporters, dismissing doubts about the sincerity of the reconciliation with Wike.

Fubara described his discussion with Tinubu as a “father-son” conversation, noting that he sought the President’s guidance to avoid further crises. He also expressed gratitude to Tinubu for his role in restoring order in the state.

This was Fubara’s first official visit to the Villa since his reinstatement on September 17, after Tinubu ended the emergency rule imposed in March amid a bitter political feud that split the state government and legislature.

The crisis, which erupted months after Fubara’s inauguration in May 2023, led to his suspension alongside his deputy and state lawmakers. A reconciliation meeting in June between Tinubu, Wike, Fubara, and other political stakeholders paved the way for the peace deal that restored him to office.
