Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, came under a “massive” aerial attack early Friday morning, the city’s mayor, Vitaly Klitschko, said, as explosions echoed across several districts.
“Air defence forces are operating in Kyiv. A massive enemy attack on the capital,” Klitschko wrote on Telegram, confirming that two people were wounded in the Dniprovsky district.
AFP journalists reported seeing tracer bullets fired at incoming drones as multiple air-defence and anti-missile systems were deployed across the city.
According to city authorities, a fire erupted on the roof of a five-storey residential building in the Solomyansky district. Emergency teams also received several calls for medical assistance from residents in the Desnyansky and Shevchenkivsky districts.
Another residential building in the Podilsky district was also reported to have caught fire following the strikes.
Russia, which launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, has intensified its attacks on Kyiv in recent months, frequently targeting energy infrastructure, rail networks, and residential neighbourhoods.
