Senator Bassey Akpan, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream and governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Akwa Ibom State, has been sentenced to 42 years in prison for corruption by a Federal High Court in Uyo.
Senator Akpan has been sent to the Ikot Ekpene Custodial Centre in Akwa Ibom State to complete his sentence after being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
During his (Akpan’s) term as commissioner for finance in Akwa Ibom State (2010-2014), he was accused of accepting bribes for 12 automobiles worth N254 million from oil marketer Olajide Omokore.
