Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has commended President Bola Tinubu for making preparations to relaunch the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme in the state.
Namadi gave the commendation when the Senior Special Assistant to the President on the programme, Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Dutse.
The governor described the initiative as a key component of the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that it delivers benefits beyond education. “Not only does it help reduce the number of out-of-school children, but it also improves their nutrition. Beyond that, it has a strong economic impact wherever it is implemented—vendors benefit, farmers benefit, cooks benefit, and local communities are uplifted,” he said.
A statement signed by his spokesperson, Hamisu Gumel, noted that Jigawa has consistently expanded the federal initiative. While the national scheme covers pupils in primary 1 to 3, the state extended it to primary 4 to 6 and has already made budgetary provisions for it in 2025, with plans to sustain funding in 2026.
Namadi assured that Jigawa would continue to support and encourage the programme, adding that wider sensitization would attract more philanthropists to key into the initiative.
In her remarks, Dr. Adeniji praised the governor’s commitment to education and expressed confidence that Jigawa would be among the first states to benefit when the programme restarts.
