MSNBC has signed a multi-year partnership with Sky News to deliver the British broadcaster’s international reporting to U.S. audiences, the network announced on Wednesday.
As part of the revamp, MSNBC will rebrand as My Source News Opinion World (MS NOW) and retire its long-standing peacock logo. The transition comes as parent company Comcast prepares to spin off several NBCUniversal cable networks later this year.
Under the deal, Sky News’ reporting—supported by 11 international bureaus and more than 500 journalists—will be available across all MSNBC platforms beginning October 1.
“In this moment of consequential and historic news events happening around the world, we are honored to bring Sky News’ premium, on-the-ground reporting to the MSNBC community,” said MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler.
Comcast, which acquired Sky for £30.6 billion ($41.1 billion) in 2018, is set to consolidate USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC and other cable channels into a new publicly traded company called Versant, as part of a strategic shift toward streaming.
The network also announced the appointment of journalist Ian Sherwood as Director of International Newsgathering. Sherwood, who previously worked with NBC News, BBC News and Sky News, has more than a decade of experience in global news leadership.
The rebrand and expanded international coverage are aimed at positioning MS NOW to compete more effectively in a fast-changing media landscape while leveraging Sky News’ global expertise.
