There was mild drama at the National Assembly on Wednesday when representatives of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) walked out during a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, was absent but sent a Director, Mufutau Bello, to represent him at the session.

Trouble began when Bello insisted that journalists be asked to leave the meeting room, claiming the documents he intended to present contained sensitive information. However, members of the Committee rejected the request, stating that its proceedings were public and that the House had constitutional authority to decide how its sittings were conducted.

The exchange quickly escalated, leading to Bello ordering his team to leave the session. The officials subsequently walked out, leaving lawmakers stunned.

Angered by their action, the Committee directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to arrest the JAMB officials, but they had already exited the National Assembly complex.

The lawmakers have now summoned the JAMB Registrar to appear in person before the Committee next Tuesday, along with his management team, to present all requested documents.

Failure to comply, the Committee warned, could result in the issuance of a warrant of arrest.
