The Federal Government has declared Monday, October 3, a public holiday to commemorate the nation’s 62nd anniversary of independence.

Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior, made the announcement in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 28 in Abuja by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Shuaib Belgore.

The minister congratulated Nigerians on the occasion and assured them of the government’s commitment to addressing the nation’s challenges and bringing smiles to Nigerians’ faces, despite the harsh realities bedeviling the nation’s economy.

Aregbesola urged Nigerians to work hard and avoid any temptation to amass quick wealth through criminal or other immoral means.

While wishing Nigerians a memorable Independence Day, he reminded them that Nigeria’s founding fathers worked together for the country’s independence despite differences in faith, tribe, and tongue, a feat worthy of emulation.
