Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has extended the deadline for enforcement of the tinted glass permit to October 2, 2025, to allow for what the police describe as a “meticulous scrutiny” of applications.
The deadline, previously shifted to August 12, was moved again to give the force more time to refine the application process.
Force spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Monday, said the extension would enable thorough assessment of applications to ensure that only eligible individuals receive permits in line with national security considerations.
“This follows a significant surge in applications via the official portal, reflecting increased public compliance,” the statement read. “It is imperative to allow enough time for detailed scrutiny to ensure the permit is issued only to qualified persons.”
Adejobi added that the extension would also help the police fine-tune both digital and physical verification systems to maintain the integrity of the permit process and prevent abuse.
He advised applicants to submit requests only through possap.gov.ng and urged the public to report cases of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorised processing via the hotline 08147818871.
The IGP, according to Adejobi, commended Nigerians for their cooperation, stressing that the measure was designed to balance public convenience with robust security measures.
