On Monday, October 31st, Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) tasked residents of Ebonyi State with preventing the resurgence of Lassa fever in the state, warning that an outbreak was imminent during the dry season.

As a result, the humanitarian organization urged communities to take precautions to prevent the virus from spreading.

While explaining the illness’s characteristics and effects on people to journalists in Abakaliki on Monday, MSF Project Coordinator, Elton Mbofana, noted that prevention and early detection of Lassa fever were key factors that would ensure lives were saved.

Dr. Slaymen Ammar, MSF project medical referent, added in his contribution, “The cost of treatment needs to be subsidized to ensure that everyone has early access to care.”
