The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested an Osun State–based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, following the circulation of a video in which he and members of his group called for a “Free Palestine” protest.

Sheikh Molaasan, who is identified as a leader of the Ta’awunu Muslimeen group, was reportedly taken into custody after the video went viral on social media and raised security concerns.

SaharaReporters learnt that the arrest was part of ongoing intelligence-led operations by the DSS to monitor public gatherings and online mobilisation considered capable of escalating into threats to public order.

As of the time of filing this report, the DSS had not issued an official statement on the arrest.

However, sources said operatives are reviewing the content, context and intent of the video, as well as the activities of the group involved, in line with Nigeria’s internal security laws.

The arrest comes amid heightened surveillance by security agencies over protests and religious mobilisation, particularly those linked to international conflicts, as authorities seek to prevent potential spillovers into domestic unrest.
