Media entrepreneur and founder of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, on Thursday officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benin City, pledging to work with like-minded Nigerians to “rescue and reposition” the country.
Speaking at the event, Momodu emphasized that his decision was motivated by a commitment to national development rather than personal political ambition. He clarified that he does not intend to contest for any elective office.
“Many have asked if I aim to run for governor or senator, but my focus is on promoting the welfare and aspirations of our people,” Momodu said. “Joining the ADC marks the beginning of a journey to unite citizens of like minds to rescue, recover, and reset Nigeria. We must prevent the drift toward a one-party state and reclaim our nation for its people.”
The defection was welcomed by former Edo State Governor and ADC leader John Odigie-Oyegun, who described Momodu’s move as a milestone for both the party and the nation.
“Chief Dele Momodu has long held politicians accountable and is not a typical politician,” Oyegun said. “His decision to join the ADC reflects the kind of principled leadership Nigeria urgently needs. Together, we must alleviate the burdens Nigerians have endured since independence.”
Momodu’s defection to the ADC comes amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
