The Nigeria Police Force has detained Comrade Segun Oluwasanmi, a whistleblower who accused Alpha-Beta Consulting Limited of corruption and tax evasion, with plans to arraign him in court on Thursday.
A relative told SaharaReporters that Oluwasanmi, a former employee of the firm, was arrested on Wednesday by officers of the State Intelligence Department (SID) at the police command headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos. According to the family, he was informed shortly before 7 p.m. that he was being detained and was allowed to contact his lawyer and relatives.
Police reportedly told the family that Oluwasanmi was arrested over allegations of cyberbullying against Alpha-Beta Consulting Limited, a company widely reported to have links to President Bola Tinubu. The family, however, insists the arrest is connected to his public allegations of corruption against the firm.
Oluwasanmi had submitted petitions to the police, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging large-scale tax evasion and financial misconduct by Alpha-Beta, a private firm contracted by the Lagos State Government for tax and revenue collection. Copies of the petitions were also sent to the Federal and Lagos State Ministries of Finance through the Lagos State chapter of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR).
In the petitions, he accused the company of under-declaring staff salaries and under-remitting statutory taxes, alleging that salaries were split to reduce tax liabilities. He claimed that even the portion declared for tax purposes was underpaid.
Oluwasanmi also alleged widespread corruption within the firm, including inflated procurement contracts, victimisation and harassment after he began raising concerns internally. He said he initially received commendations and monetary rewards for exposing fraud but later faced reprisals, including alleged forgery of his signature by a senior executive.
He said he resigned from the company on November 6 after being instructed to report to an executive he accused of forging his signature, adding that an internal investigation report was never released despite repeated follow-ups.
As of the time of filing this report, the police had not disclosed the court where Oluwasanmi is expected to be arraigned.
