A Port Harcourt-based law firm, Danagogo, Oputa & Associates, has asked the Nigeria Police Force to reschedule an invitation extended to its principal partner and former Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Tammy Wenike Danagogo, over an alleged plot to assassinate the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
In a letter dated January 13, 2026, and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Guzape District, Abuja, the firm said Danagogo would be unable to honour the invitation scheduled for Thursday, January 15, 2026, because he was out of town.
The police invitation, referenced CR: 3000/FID/IRT/ABJ/ADM/VOL. 9/57, was reportedly served on the law firm on Monday at about 6:00 p.m.
“The attention of our Chief, Dr. T. W. Danagogo, has been drawn to your letter under reference after service on us yesterday at about 18:00 hours. Upon reaching him, we regret to inform you that he is currently out of town and may not be available for your slated Thursday, 15th January 2026 appointment,” the letter read.
The firm requested that the interview be rescheduled to Monday, January 26, 2026, to enable Danagogo to appear before investigators. The correspondence was signed by Sir I. O. Nwodoh, an associate at the firm.
The invitation is linked to an ongoing police investigation into a leaked phone conversation allegedly discussing a plot to kill Wike. In a separate letter dated January 9, issued by the Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja, Danagogo was directed to appear in person at the IRT complex in Guzape District by 10:00 a.m. on January 15.
The letter instructed him to report to CSP Hillary Ugwuanyi and his team, describing the summons as a “fact-finding exercise in the interest of justice and fairness,” in line with Section 53(2)(c) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.
Although the invitation did not expressly mention Wike or an assassination plot, sources familiar with the investigation said it is connected to a viral audio recording allegedly discussing plans to eliminate the FCT minister, a key political figure in the Rivers State political crisis and a long-time rival of Danagogo.
Danagogo, an ally of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, served as SSG before the fallout between Fubara and Wike.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that a Port Harcourt-based medical doctor and pastor, Dr. Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, was arrested in connection with the alleged plot. Security sources said Gbeneol, founder of Life Forte Chapel Church, was arrested by operatives of the IRT following the interception of an alleged phone conversation between him and Danagogo.
According to the sources, the conversation allegedly involved discussions about bringing in Israeli nationals to carry out the assassination, with plans to seek funding from Governor Fubara. A senior security source described the content of the call as a “grave national security threat.”
Dr. Gbeneol has reportedly been in detention for about two weeks, while investigations continue. Police authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody, saying investigations are ongoing, but declined to provide further details.
