Captain Ibrahim Traore, 34, led a group of angry junior officers in the Burkina Faso’s second coup in eight months, last month.

Junta members had previously stated that he will assume the position of provisional president, but the actual investiture will take place on Friday.

The constitutional council declared on Wednesday that it officially acknowledges the vacancy of the presidency, adding that Traore had been appointed by a national conference of the country’s forces as president of the transition, head of state, supreme leader of the national armed forces.
