The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Lucky Irabor, stated yesterday that joint training exercises for the Armed Forces are critical to addressing the country’s security challenges.

In Abuja, he spoke at a Joint Simulation Exercise 2022 for Operation Whirl Punch.

He noted that, given the time available to the defense forces, a simulation exercise would be a good place to start.

According to Irabor, the armed forces operate within an environment and a geographical space, but the contending issues extend far beyond that space, which is global in nature.

The military chief stated that the armed forces were currently engaged in various theaters of operations across the country, dealing with issues that were more internal in nature and required resources and the capacity of the armed forces at some point.

The defense chief thanked Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, Chief of Army Staff, for making the center available for the exercise.

Earlier, in his remarks, Major Gen Adeyemi Yekimi, Chief of Defence, Training and Operations, explained that the exercise was organized as a follow-up to one of the key decisions reached during the previous defense retreat held in Asaba.

He stated that the main goal was to find ways to improve jointness in operations as the Nigerian armed forces, working with other security agencies to overcome the country’s current security challenges.
