Gunmen attacked rice farmers in Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State on Wednesday evening, killing two and abducting four others, just a day after an attack on a church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area.
According to community sources, the farmers were attacked during peak harvest hours while working in their fields. The assailants reportedly operated in the area for several minutes before leaving.
A community leader said the two farmers were shot while trying to resist abduction. Four other farmers were taken away, and three managed to escape. One of the escapees sustained injuries. The deceased have since been buried.
Residents expressed concern over rising insecurity in Edu Local Government Area, noting that many farmers are abandoning their settlements, especially during the harvest season when they are most vulnerable.
Attempts to reach the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ojo Adekimi, for comment were unsuccessful.
