The political landscape in Nigeria’s House of Representatives has shifted firmly in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the defection of six lawmakers from opposition parties to the ruling party.
With the latest defections, the APC now holds 243 seats in the 360-member chamber—surpassing the two-thirds majority mark of 240 seats and cementing its control of the lower legislative house.
The crossovers, which took place three days into the legislative week, were formally received by the APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah. The move is seen as a significant political boost for the ruling party, enhancing its influence over parliamentary decisions, national policy directions, and key appointments.
The development represents another strategic win for the APC, reinforcing its legislative dominance and further solidifying its grip on Nigeria’s political and governance agenda.
