Kassie Vaughan is calling out a state prison in Alabama for neglect and violation of her brother’s human rights after she received disturbing photos of him looking malnourished and in dire need of medical attention.
Kastellio Vaughan, her brother, is a prisoner at Elmore Correctional Facility in central Alabama.
According to court and prison records, he began serving a 20-year sentence in 2019 for multiple burglaries and illegal breaking in and entering in Baldwin and Mobile counties.
He was eligible for parole in June, but it was denied. He will be eligible for parole consideration again in June 2027.
Kassie took to Facebook to share the disturbing photos she received, stating that she is worried about her brother’s health and the last time she saw him in good health was July 24, 2022.
She revealed that her brother is still in the general population and all attempts to contact him have been futile.
“The staff is hanging up on us. The warden has left, so we can’t get in contact with her. They are being very rude and are taking this whole situation as a joke.”
She later posted on Facebook that she can no longer call or check on her brother’s well-being because she has been removed from his contact information and visitation list.
The Alabama Department of Corrections has since provided an update to Al.com via email, it reads,
“He is assigned to Elmore Correctional Facility (CF) but is currently housed at Staton Medical Observation Unit. ADOC’s Office of Health Services has fully investigated his situation from a clinical perspective, and he has been offered all necessary treatment for his condition. He has also been in touch with his family to update them on his situation”.
