While subsidy has remained a contentious issue, President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that the policy is unsustainable. He stated that the country’s subsidy regime must be phased out by 2023.
The President spoke to a joint session of the National Assembly on Friday during the presentation of the 2023 budget estimate.
He also stated that the government was doing everything possible to improve the country’s power generation.
Buhari went on to say that the government has earmarked a number of roads for construction across the country, adding that the government was putting in place measures to ensure that revenue generated by government agencies was remitted to the federation’s Consolidated Revenue Fund.
He stated that the government’s revenue reforms were yielding positive results and requested the Assembly’s continued cooperation in achieving greater efficiency in revenue generation.
