His Excellency, Peter Obi, has challenged the Gombe State populace and indeed the entire northern region, to vote for the qualified candidate in the forthcoming Presidency Election.

In an interactive session with the leadership of the various support groups of the Labour Party, the first of its kind, last night, the former Governor of Anambra said he is contesting for the position of the President of Nigeria because he is qualified.

Fielding questions from a representative of the party in Gombe State, who expressed concern about outreach to women in the region and the grassroots, Obi challenged them to consider his capacity to do the job, while assuring them that he is coming to change Nigeria and pull people out of poverty.

Citing the poor state of things and underdevelopment in the region despite the fact that they have been in power for more than forty years, their vast land and human resource remain uncultivated. He challenged them to look at his antecedents and those of the opposition and then judge who to vote for, adding;

“I am contesting because I am the most qualified. Look at my past, education, achievements and exposition and make your decision to vote for me or not.”

Obi, who said he is a business man as well as a corporate person, said he performed well in terms of the MDGs as a former Governor, adding that he never mingled with public funds even though he had the opportunity to do so. He stressed his capacity to do the job, which he says is his reason to run for the race.

He further reinstated his commitment to pulling people out of poverty, adding that if he wins the election, he will change the north and indeed the whole Nigeria. In his words;

“There is Nigeria, but there are no Nigerians, but I am coming to change this narrative.”
