The governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, has criticised the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, claiming he cannot win the 2023 presidential election.

Soludo claimed that the LP candidate was playing a game with his election campaign, and that Obi lacked the requisite organisation to win the presidency on the Labour Party platform.

The governor mentioned these in an article titled ‘History Beckons and I Will Not Be Silent (Part 1)’ published on Monday.

During an appearance on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’ last Thursday, Soludo stated that the investments attributed to Obi, an ex-Anambra State governor, were worth “next to nothing.”

The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s criticism of his predecessor in Anambra State sparked a wave of anger from Obi’s fans, notably on social media.

Soludo said that those who were offended by his words had initiated attacks on him and his family.

He claimed there were suggestions that the Saturday attack in his community, Isuofia, in the state’s Aguata Local Government Area, which killed five security personnel, was carried out by those enraged by his remarks about the LP candidate.

While describing the attacks on him as an act of desperation and intolerance, he noted that the attempt to bully anyone who expresses the slightest dissent was heinous.

Soludo also mentioned the attack on Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuma, Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, by Obi’s followers known as ‘Obidients.’

He called the attempt to bully individuals who did not support Obi’s presidential desire tyrannical, warning that if not curbed, this mentality might jeopardise the Igbos’ future political and economic interests.

While admitting some youngsters’ dissatisfaction with the country’s trajectory or the main parties’ candidates, the governor lectured his opponents on democratic principles, emphasising that the minority would have their voice, but the majority would have their way.

He believes that turning rage and social media agitation into political consequences is a monumental task.

In assessing the LP’s chances in the upcoming election, the governor stated, “Let’s be clear: Peter Obi knows he can’t and won’t win.” He understands the game he is playing, as do we; and he understands that we understand.

Soludo claimed that the LP lacks the organisation to win the presidential election in 2023, claiming that Obi might not finish third.

The governor admitted that the LP candidate would receive some votes in his home state of Anambra, but that this would not be enough to propel him forward.
