A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Biodun Ajiboye, has said opposition leader Peter Obi does not have the capacity to perform better in office than President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Ajiboye dismissed Obi’s record as a former governor of Anambra State, arguing that it did not demonstrate the qualities required to lead Nigeria.
“Bring a million Obi, he can’t do better. What miracle did he perform in Anambra? He wasn’t successful even then,” Ajiboye said.
He defended Tinubu’s economic policies, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the floatation of the naira, describing them as difficult but necessary measures to prevent the country’s economy from collapsing.
“At the point Bola Tinubu came, he said, ‘No, I will not allow this country to go down like this. Let us stop and re-evaluate,’” Ajiboye said, adding that Nigerians must endure current hardships to secure future stability.
He also accused opposition leaders, including Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Nasir El-Rufai, of refusing to accept the realities confronting the country. According to him, Tinubu’s record as governor of Lagos State showed his competence to govern Nigeria.
Meanwhile, Obi has reiterated his presidential ambition, saying he remains committed to providing good governance if elected. The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate has maintained that he would only need a single four-year term to deliver results, and is currently part of an opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The coalition includes Atiku, former Senate President David Mark, and ex-governors Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and El-Rufai.
