The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled Thursday, August 21, 2025, for elections in five polling units of Kaura Namoda South State Constituency in Zamfara State.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. He recalled that the commission conducted 16 by-elections and two court-ordered re-run elections on Saturday, August 16, across the country. The polls were held in two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies, and nine state constituencies.

Olumekun explained that while results were declared in two senatorial districts, five federal constituencies, and eight state constituencies, elections in Kaura Namoda South were disrupted. According to him, the Returning Officer could not declare a winner due to violence in five polling units across two wards, affecting 3,572 registered voters, of which 3,265 had collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

He said the margin of lead in the constituency stood at 1,662, which, under Section 24(3) and (4) of the Electoral Act 2022, necessitated supplementary elections in the affected units.

Meanwhile, INEC confirmed that two tribunal-ordered re-run elections earlier disrupted by violence in Enugu and Kano States have now been concluded. Ngene Bright Emeka of the Labour Party (LP) was declared winner of the Enugu South 1 State Constituency election, while Ya’u Garba Gwarmai of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency in Kano.

Olumekun added that Certificates of Return will be presented on Thursday to Senators-elect for Anambra South and Edo Central, as well as five House of Representatives members-elect for constituencies in Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, and Oyo States.

He further noted that State Assembly members-elect from Adamawa, Anambra, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Niger, and Taraba States will receive their Certificates of Return from Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at state offices on Friday, August 22, at 11:00 a.m.
