A 17-year-old Nigerian student, Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, from Yobe State, has emerged as the world’s best in English language skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.

Nafisa, who represented Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), outshined over 20,000 participants from 69 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia.
She was joined by 15-year-old Ruqayya Fema, also a student of NTIC Mamudo, Yobe, who distinguished herself in the debate segment of the competition. Both teenagers were celebrated for their exceptional performance, which placed Nigeria on the global academic map.
The TeenEagle Global Finals is a prestigious international competition that tests students in English language proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has congratulated the two champions, describing their victory as a major milestone for the state and the country. In a statement issued by his Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the governor said the achievement reflects the state’s investment in education.
“These are great feats that make us proud and justify the government’s investment in the education sector,” Buni said. “I have approved a grand reception in their honour.”
The governor revealed that Nafisa and Ruqayya are both beneficiaries of the state’s scholarship programme, which currently supports 890 students at NTIC. He also disclosed that about 40,000 students across Nigeria and abroad are benefiting from the government’s scholarship schemes.
“A few months ago, the state celebrated the graduation of 167 scholarship beneficiaries from Indian universities in disciplines such as medical sciences, computer science, and engineering,” he added.
The NTIC Mamudo campus in Yobe, where the two girls study, is a government-owned institution managed by Turkish education authorities. It has played a significant role in improving academic standards in the state.
Nafisa’s win has been widely celebrated across the country as a symbol of the untapped academic talent in northern Nigeria and an inspiration to young people nationwide.
The TeenEagle victory reinforces Nigeria’s growing presence in global academic competitions and highlights the importance of sustained investments in education.
