Yakubu Dogara, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress to join the Peoples Democratic Party.
This comes only 48 hours after Dogara and several disgruntled northern APC officials proclaimed their support for the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Following several months of political manoeuvring, the Northern Elders Consultative Forum, which included Christian leaders in the All Progressives Congress in the North, publicly backed Atiku on Friday.
According to them, Atiku was chosen as a result of the Northern Christian leaders’ determination to unite with their Muslim counterparts to support one of the presidential candidates in order to defeat the APC’s same-faith presidential ticket.
During the presidential campaign, Dogara was welcomed into the party by the party’s presidential candidate and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in the nation’s commercial hub, Lagos State.
