Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has joined President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and Nigerians in celebrating the country’s 62nd anniversary of independence.

The governor stated that the celebration was an opportunity to continue to honor the legacies of past heroes.

Despite all of Nigeria’s challenges, he noted that there is much to celebrate, “particularly the fact that we are still together as an entity and hopeful that the lofty height of greatness we covet is still within our reach to accomplish.”

Ismaila Uba Misilli, the Governor of Gombe, urged the people not to give up hope in the quest to create a prosperous state and country “as envisioned by our founding fathers” in a message to mark the 62nd anniversary of Nigeria’s independence and the 26th anniversary of the founding of Gombe state.

He urged the people of Gombe State and Nigerians in general to rekindle their hopes and renew their commitment and love for the country, despite the fact that Nigeria is going through difficult times due to insecurity, the socio-economic impact of the war in Ukraine, and other factors.

The governor pointed that

“As the country celebrates its 62nd independence anniversary, all hands must be on deck to foster unity, peace, security, and understanding regardless of our differences”

He urged the populace to use the greatness and prospects of Gombe state and the nation as a driving force, he said;

“There is much to celebrate, especially the fact that we are still together as a unit and hopeful that the lofty height of greatness we covet is still within our reach to accomplish, despite all the difficulties the nation is currently facing.”

Governor Yahaya emphasized the significance of the twin celebration stating,

“For us in Gombe State, it is a double celebration, as we are marking the 62nd anniversary of our country’s independence as well as the 26th year anniversary of the creation of our dreary state.”

Under his direction, he reassured the indigenes of Gombe that the state will continue to grow stronger in all spheres of human endeavor. He also promised to keep launching people-oriented policies and programs that will improve the lives of the people and the state.

Yahaya stated, “Since taking office in May 2019, I have emphasized the significance of eschewing short-term expediency and gains and m instead committed to putting long-term solutions to grave developmental problems into action. I firmly believe that by implementing more effective procedures in government, we will not only address challenging developmental challenges but also lay the groundwork for our beloved state’s long-term prosperity, peace, and advancement.

Governor Yahaya urged the people of Gombe State to continue playing their part in strengthening democracy by actively participating in the electoral process as the campaigns for the 2023 elections get underway.

However, he urged people to act maturely and with decorum, and to avoid any actions that would jeopardize the process.

Governor Yahaya said that while celebrating with President Buhari and the entire country on the auspicious occasion, it is a chance to keep up the traditions set forth by our ancestors’ heroes.
