Terry Gene Bollea, famously known as Hulk Hogan, a towering figure in professional wrestling and pop culture, has died at the age of 71.
According to his manager Chris Volo, Hogan passed away following a cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida, surrounded by family. His death comes after weeks of speculation over his health, despite his wife Sky recently assuring the public that he was recovering well from multiple heart surgeries.
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) confirmed the death in a statement posted on social media: “WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”
Recognized by his signature blonde mustache, bandannas, and charisma, Hogan rose to fame in the 1980s, becoming a six-time WWE Champion and the face of the Hulkamania era. He headlined eight of the first nine WrestleMania events, including a legendary match against Andre the Giant in 1987 that drew a record crowd of over 93,000. He also starred in what remains one of the most-watched wrestling matches in American TV history.
Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice—first in 2005 for his solo career, and again in 2020 as a member of the New World Order (NWO), a revolutionary wrestling faction. Beyond wrestling, Hogan gained fame as an actor, television personality, and outspoken supporter of Donald Trump.
Tributes have poured in from the wrestling community and beyond. Wrestling icons Charlotte and Ric Flair both shared emotional tributes, recalling Hogan’s unwavering friendship and support during personal hardships. Former WWE commentator Todd Grisham described him as “the first superhero come to life,” adding, “There will never be another Hulk Hogan.”
Hogan is survived by his two children, Brooke and Nick, from his 26-year marriage to Linda Claridge. His legacy as one of the most iconic and transformative figures in sports entertainment history remains unmatched.
