Udeogu Chinelo, 37, was arrested by operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Anambra State Command for allegedly flogging her three-year-old grandchild to death.
The suspect, who was born in Enugwu-Ukwu but married in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area, was apprehended in an Awka primary school where she had previously enrolled the deceased, Ifechukwu, and had gone to collect the school fees she had paid for her.
According to the reports, the deceased had convulsions after being thoroughly flogged by the suspect, who claimed to have rushed her to the hospital where she died.
NAPTIP Public Relations Officer Okafor Anthony confirmed the incident, saying the victim died on September 29, 2022. He added that the suspect claimed the deceased was her granddaughter.
Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga said the case has been transferred to state CID for investigations.
