Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged that 80 per cent of the housing challenges faced by judges in Abuja will be addressed before the end of President Bola Tinubu’s first term.

Wike made the commitment on Tuesday during the foundation-laying ceremony for three magistrate buildings in Jabi, Asokoro, and Garki. The event was attended by Justice Sylvanus Orji, who represented the FCT Chief Judge, Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf.

The minister stressed that an enabling environment was vital for efficient justice delivery. “It is very embarrassing to see where our judges and magistrates sit. How can we expect them to deliver justice efficiently when their welfare is neglected?” he asked.

Wike noted that some judges currently live in rented apartments, sometimes close to criminals, posing security risks. He revealed that by October 2025, 20 new duplexes will be handed over to the FCT High Court, while over 30 additional units would be completed by June 2026, to coincide with Tinubu’s third year in office.

He also commended the FCT High Court for contributing to the territory’s revenue generation, saying its support has strengthened Abuja’s broader development agenda.

Wike concluded that improved housing and facilities for judicial officers were critical to enhancing justice delivery, security, and overall welfare in the FCT.
