The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 2,532,062 Nigerians pre-registered online within the first two weeks of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the figures were recorded via the Commission’s dedicated CVR portal.
He explained that the online platform, introduced in 2021, allows Nigerians to begin registration at any time, but stressed that registrants must still visit any of INEC’s 811 state and local government offices nationwide to complete biometric capture.
“As of Sunday, 31st August 2025, a total of 2,532,062 Nigerians had pre-registered online,” Olumekun said. Of this number, 1,218,482 (48.12%) were male, while 1,313,580 (51.88%) were female. Young people aged 18–34 accounted for 1,602,484 (63.29%), and students made up 647,528 (25.57%).
On in-person registration, which commenced on 25th August, Olumekun said 72,274 Nigerians had completed their registration or freshly registered by Friday, 29th August. This included 35,622 males (49.29%) and 36,652 females (50.71%). Of these, 54,718 (75.71%) were aged 18–34, while 30,953 (42.83%) were students.
He added that full statistical breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status have been published on INEC’s website and official platforms.
INEC urged all eligible Nigerians to ensure they complete the physical registration process to validate their voter records.
