The Super Falcons of Nigeria have secured their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in dramatic fashion, defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
Morocco appeared in control early on, with captain Ghizlane Chebbak and forward Sanaâ Mssoudy putting the home team 2-0 up.
Chebbak opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a stunning strike from distance, followed by Mssoudy’s composed finish before the half-hour mark.
Despite the early setback, Nigeria showed great resilience.
The comeback began in the 63rd minute when a VAR decision awarded the Super Falcons a penalty, confidently converted by Esther Okoronkwo.
Moments later, Okoronkwo turned provider, setting up Folashade Ijamilusi for the equaliser.
Morocco thought they had won a penalty after a handball appeal, but the decision was overturned after another VAR review.
Nigeria completed their comeback in style, with Okoronkwo once again providing the assist—this time delivering a perfect cross that Jennifer Echegini headed home to seal the victory.
This win marks yet another milestone in the Super Falcons’ illustrious history and solidifies their dominance in African women’s football.
It was indeed a super finish from super falcon. Hard fighting squad.
