Retirees from primary schools in the state’s 25 local government areas besieged the Delta State seat of power on Monday due to nonpayment of pension.

The retirees, who were dressed in black, carried signs with messages such as “Wicked Okowa, give us our pensions,” and “Okowa, you owe the living and the dead,” among others.

They halted automobile passage into and out of the government building.

They also stopped the busy Anwai route, causing significant traffic as many sat on the road with mats, yelling “Only Okowa will address us.”

Patrick Lori, one of the retirees who spoke with reporters, stated that they have been owed since 2015 and had served for 35 years.
