The Governing Council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has appointed Professor Simon Uchenna Ortuanya as the institution’s 16th Vice-Chancellor.
The announcement was made following the ratification of his appointment on Sunday by the Council, after a rigorous and transparent selection process chaired by Engr. Kayode Ojo, the Council Chairman.
Professor Ortuanya, a seasoned legal scholar, brings a strong background in academia and public administration. He previously served as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Law, UNN Enugu Campus, and is currently a Professor of Law at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). He is also a visiting scholar at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
Beyond academia, Professor Ortuanya has held several strategic roles in government, including serving as Secretary to the Enugu State Government and as the State Commissioner for Education.
His appointment is expected to usher in a new phase of academic excellence and institutional growth at UNN, as he brings with him a deep understanding of university governance, public policy, and legal frameworks.
The university community has congratulated Professor Ortuanya on his appointment and expressed optimism for his five-year tenure.
