Nigeria edged Saudi Arabia 3-2 in a dramatic Group F clash at the ongoing 24th FIFA U20 World Cup in Talca, Chile, on Friday morning, to secure three points and strengthen their chances of advancing to the Round of 16.
Midfielder Nasiru Salihu opened scoring for the Flying Eagles in the 10th minute, before Amar Alyuhaybi equalized for the Saudis in the 21st minute. Amos Ochoche restored Nigeria’s lead in the 38th minute, ensuring the seven-time African champions went into halftime 2-1 up.
Six minutes after the restart, Talal Haji struck to level the game once again for Saudi Arabia. However, captain Daniel Bameyi sealed victory for Nigeria with a stoppage-time penalty, four minutes into added time.
The result places Nigeria in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stage, with a decisive match against Colombia coming up on Sunday.
