Hermes Iyele, a Big Brother Naija Season 7 ex-housemate, has come under fire for his red carpet attire in honor of the late Chadwick Boseman.
The reality TV star was among the celebrities who attended the African premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on Sunday in Lagos.
Following the event’s Afro-futuristic theme, Hermes wore African warrior garb and a cape with a large picture of the late actor printed on it.
Boseman’s name was misspelled in bold font beneath the image as “Chad Boswick.”
Chadwick Boseman played the main character, T’Challa, in the first blockbuster, Black Panther, which was released in 2018.
Following the red carpet gaffe, Nigerians took to Twitter to express their displeasure with Hermes and his stylist, Toyin Lawani, for failing to pay attention to the crucial detail.
@BusolaDavid tweeted “The ‘anyhowness’ in different parts of Nigeria is quite alarming, cause how did this ‘Chad Boswick’ thing go unnoticed?”
“You can’t even look up his name on Google.”
You had no choice but to embarrass yourself.
Because who is Chad Boswick in the name of fashion?” @TheChefTopher wrote on Twitter.
“Chad Boswick is not just embarrassing,” said @Ogxmdi. It’s inexcusable. I’d vanish into the earth’s mantle. Then there’s that. “I could never be you.”
@mazpa md said, “Not Hermes attending that event wearing this hideous cape that spells late Chadwick Boseman’s name as ‘Chad Boswick,'”. He added. “If you’re wondering why people are embarrassed, it is because Hermes didn’t even care about Chadwick Bozeman enough to know his name, talk less of honoring his death through fashion. It means that he is just doing it for clout! And that’s just weird!”
Wakanda Forever, directed by Ryan Coogler, will be released in theaters worldwide on November 11, 2022.
