US President Donald Trump on Monday suggested that Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro should consider stepping down, warning that resistance could have severe consequences.
Speaking to reporters at his Florida residence, Trump said it was ultimately Maduro’s decision. “That’s up to him, what he wants to do. I think it would be smart for him to do that,” he remarked.
Trump added a stark warning for the Venezuelan leader, saying, “If he wants to do something if he plays tough, it’ll be the last time he’s ever able to play tough.”
The comments come amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Caracas, with the US continuing to put pressure on Maduro’s 12-year administration.
