The Nigerian Correctional Service, Lagos State Command, has confirmed that 20 inmates were killed during the October 2020 #EndSARS protest at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre.
Olarotimi Oladokun, the command’s spokesperson, stated this on Thursday in response to the testimony of a witness, Christian Akara, who testified before a coroner inquest on the matter.
Akara claimed that an armed guard killed 150 inmates and that he assisted in carrying the bodies.
However, Oladokun stated in a statement that some intruders engaged security guards in a shootout, resulting in 20 deaths.
