Jones Adewoye, a former bartender, told a Lagos High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos State how a hoodlum, Felix Ayeye, was arrested while attempting to sell the phone he stole from him to his wife at their home in the Ajah area of the state.

According to reports, Adewoye was on his way home when he was mugged by Ayeye and his gang members in a dark area.

During the attack, Adewoye, the first prosecution witness to testify in court on Thursday, told Justice Modupe Nico-Clay that hoodlums led by Ayeye stabbed him with a dagger and robbed him of his phone and other items worth N78,000.

He explained that Ayeye, who is charged with two counts bordering on robbery and armed robbery, was apprehended while attempting to sell his stolen phone to his wife.

During the proceedings, the prosecuting counsel, Titilayo Olanrewaju-Daudu, stated that the offence committed violated Sections 299 and 297 (2) (b) of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. As a result, Justice Nico-Clay postponed the case until November 10 for trial.

At the resumption of the hearing, Olanrewaju-Daudu announced her presence, while H. O. Ogungbamila represented the defendant.

Olanrewaju-Daudu led Adewoye in evidence-in-chief, and he told the court that Ayeye, who was remanded in prison custody for the crime, had been sending threatening messages to his wife.

The case was postponed until November 30 to allow for the continuation of the trial.
