The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has disclosed that a total of N8.18 billion has been allocated to Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) in Ondo State for infrastructural development.
Executive Secretary of TETFund, Mr. Sonny Echono, made this known on Saturday during the inauguration of five major projects at the institution, held as part of activities marking RUGIPO’s combined 12th to 23rd Convocation Ceremonies.
Represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Arch. Babatunde Olajide, Echono explained that of the total allocation between 2011 and 2025, the polytechnic has so far accessed N5.57 billion, while the remaining N2.61 billion is tied to ongoing projects across the campus.
He listed the newly inaugurated TETFund-sponsored projects to include the Faculty of Applied Sciences building, Faculty of Engineering Technology building, a 250-seater twin lecture theatre, and the construction and furnishing of academic staff offices — collectively valued at over N1.7 billion.
Echono said the interventions reflect President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to upgrading infrastructure and promoting academic excellence in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. He also commended RUGIPO’s management for its prudent use of funds, describing the quality of completed projects as exemplary despite prevailing economic challenges.
“I urge the institution to ensure proper maintenance of these facilities to sustain their lifespan and impact,” he added.
In his remarks, the Acting Rector of RUGIPO, Mr. Olorunwa Adegun, reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to accountability and excellence, noting that TETFund’s interventions have significantly transformed the polytechnic’s academic environment.
Adegun expressed appreciation to TETFund for its continuous support and appealed for RUGIPO’s inclusion in the 2026 Special Intervention and Special High Impact Intervention, saying such support would enable the establishment of a modern health centre and the construction of additional student hostels.
