Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has appointed his elder brother, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed-Duguri, as the first Emir of the newly established Duguri Emirate in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.
Mohammed-Duguri, a retired Assistant Controller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), currently serves as the Chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and was previously the District Head of Yelwan Duguri.
The Duguri Emirate is among 13 new emirates recently created by Governor Mohammed following the passage of a bill by the Bauchi State House of Assembly. The new emirates include Jema’a, Duguri, Warji, Burra, Dambam, Giade, Bununu, Lere, Toro, Lame, Gamawa, Ari, and Darazo, along with the Zaar Chiefdom — bringing the total number of emirate councils in the state to 19, in addition to one chiefdom.
The Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Hammayo, presented the letter of appointment to the new Emir on behalf of the Governor during a ceremony at the Duguri Palace. Hammayo urged the Emir to promote peace, unity, and justice within his domain, expressing confidence that his leadership would bring progress and stability to the area.
He noted that the creation of the new emirates underscores the state government’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions as key partners in community development and grassroots governance.
In his acceptance speech, the new Emir thanked Governor Mohammed for his foresight in ensuring equitable representation across the state and commended the State House of Assembly for its role in establishing the emirates. He pledged to prioritize education, healthcare, and peace-building initiatives within the Duguri Emirate.
