As the industry calls for energy-efficient, reliable, and affordable battery charging solutions, Infineon Technologies introduces the ICC80QSG single-stage PWM controller for flyback topologies, thereby expanding its line of AC-DC controller ICs.
The IC assists in realizing simple, secure, and reliable AC-DC battery charger designs for a variety of applications, along with a full suite of protection features.
When used in conjunction with CoolMOSTM P7 super junction (SJ) MOSFETs, the ICC80QSG can deliver scalable power designs of up to 130W for battery charger applications. It is also appropriate for applications involving adapters, printers, PCs, TVs, monitors, set-top boxes, and audio amplifiers.
High efficiency and low electromagnetic interference (EMI) can be attained by combining ICC80QSG with CoolMOSTM P7 MOSFET devices to enable cost savings on the overall BOM: fewer heatsinks and coils may be required in flyback designs.
The battery charging IC for the ICC80QSG offers a quasi-resonant mode that switches in valley n. (QRMn). Its QRM operation includes valley switching discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) in mid to light load and continuous conduction mode (CCM) prevention.
Additionally, designs with extremely low standby power consumption are possible thanks to the integrated burst mode function for very light loads. Additionally, the ICC80QSG has a remarkable standby performance throughout the entire operating range and a reduced gate driver output voltage during burst mode, making it the perfect choice for very low standby requirements under light load or no load conditions.
The secondary-side regulation (SSR) method used by the ICC80QSG is perfect for controlling current during battery charging. It allows for adjustable maximum on-time that limits input power and current, enabling safe operation under low line conditions, as well as adjustable on-time mapping at the valley changing position for the desired maximum operating switching frequency.
The primary MOSFET is protected by the IC’s externally configurable tight brown-in/brown-out hysteresis, which makes sure it doesn’t overheat even with fewer heatsinks during input Undervoltage.
The IC assists in realizing simple, secure, and reliable AC-DC battery charger designs for a variety of applications, along with a full suite of protection features.
The PG-DSO-8 package for ICC80QSG battery charging ICs is now available.
