Sweden has declared its support for international efforts to ramp up weapons deliveries to Ukraine, aligning with a major U.S. initiative that includes billions of dollars in military aid and the deployment of advanced Patriot missile systems.

Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson welcomed the U.S. decision in a statement to Reuters, calling it a significant boost to Ukraine’s defense amid continued Russian aggression.

“We welcome the American decision to make possible increased sanctions against Russia and to pave the way for the delivery of Patriots and other weapon systems to Ukraine,” Jonson said. “Sweden will contribute,” he added, though he did not provide details on the scale or nature of the country’s support.

The announcement follows a renewed push by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to reinforce Western military backing for Kyiv through NATO channels. Sweden’s commitment adds momentum to a growing coalition of European and NATO allies stepping up assistance to Ukraine during the protracted war.

Details of Sweden’s contribution are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks as coordination continues among NATO partners.
