Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State on Tuesday said his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027 is based on the economic reforms initiated since Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.
Speaking with journalists after a closed-door meeting with the President at the State House, Soludo, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said he saw no reason to apologise for endorsing Tinubu despite belonging to the opposition.
“President Tinubu has been my friend for 22 years. I’m impressed by the bold steps he has taken, particularly in the economy and structural reforms. We’re taking the right steps and need to stay the course,” he said.
On insecurity in Anambra, Soludo cited the state’s new Homeland Security Law and a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic approaches, including youth empowerment and skills training. He said about 5,000 youths have been trained and empowered, with another 8,700 set to receive financial support soon.
Similarly, Senator Aliyu Wadada (SDP–Nasarawa West) also endorsed Tinubu for a second term, declaring that the opposition stands no chance in 2027. After his own meeting with the President, Wadada, who has not formally defected but identifies with the APC, said no opposition figure can outperform Tinubu.
He praised the administration’s infrastructure drive, citing projects such as the Sokoto–Badagry and Abuja–Kano roads, and developments in the Federal Capital Territory. Wadada also thanked the President for recognising him during his recent turbaning as Maga Jindengi of Lafia.
